These subs are a favorite of Suzy and her hubby’s. You can use store bought hoagies or use Rhodes Rolls to make your own hoagie buns.
SOS Shrimp Sub Sandwiches
Suzy show how to make a favorite of hers and her hubby's using fresh Florida shrimp from the Buddy's Seafood Market in Panama City Beach Florida
Ingredients
- 2 to 3 cups cabbage slaw mix
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons real Mayo
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- Dash of pepper
- Squeeze of fresh lemon juice about 1 tsp
- Greens from 2 chopped scallions
- 8 Rhode’s dinner rolls thawed
- 16 Med to large shrimps thawed
- 1 1/2 tsp of bay seasoning
- 1/2 tsp celery seed
- Dash of pepper
- 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil (hot pepper flakes added to oil gives it a zing)
- 4 cloves garlic chopped and garlic powder if you like garlic
- Whites from 2 scallions chopped
- Squeeze of fresh lemon juice about 1 tsp
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Make the coleslaw by mixing the Mayo, sour cream, lemon juice, celery seed, dash of pepper together. Stir into the slaw mix along with the green onion greens. Put into fridge while making the rest of the sub.
- Bake the buns at 350° for about 12 to 15 minutes till golden brown. Brush tops with butter. Cool slightly. Cut almost in halve leaving one side uncut. Butter the bun or sprinkle a little olive oil in a frying pan or griddle to toast the inside.
- Prepare the shrimp by removing shell and deveining. If using frozen raw shrimp, thaw in cool running water, strain. Cut shrimp into bit size pieces.
- Place shrimp in a bowl add the bay seasoning, the celery seed, pepper, mix till well coated. Heat olive oil on stove add garlic, scallion whites, shrimp. Cook till shrimp turns white and opaque. Shrimp cooks quickly do not overcook. Squeeze lemon juice over the shrimp, add butter. After butter is melted remove from heat.
- Put the buns on a plate. Spoon the shrimp on the bun and top with slaw.
Serve with your favorite side.
Enjoy!
