North Dakota has more Coastline than Califorinia?

How could this be?

North Dakota has 1320 miles of coastline and California has 840 miles. This is because North Dakota’s coastline is not an ocean but a manmade lake, Lake Sakakawea is a resevoir created when Garrison Dam was built in 1947

Favorite place to camp along Lake Sakakawea

Suzy has not invested in a RV and tent camping is not as much fun as it was when she was younger. She spent 7 years tent camping at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot Noth Dakota while she sold products. She also was a Girl Scout Leader for 8 years and did plenty of camping. The Sisters of the Spoon used to meet up in places across North Dakota and Minnesota for a camp get together, Sharon had a RV and Suzy had her 3 room tent that could sleep 8.

Fort Stevenson State Park

There are three cabins at the park that can be rented, bring your sleeping bags or bedding. They are air conditioned and have electricity, no running water inside, a old fashioned pump type well outside, out houses are across the road very close to the cabins. Bring a lantern or flash light to use if you need to go to the cabin after dark. The park also has RV and tent camping. Fort Stevenson State Park 1252A 41st Avenue NW Garrison, ND 58540-9229

Along the north shore of Lake Sakakawea is the North Dakota State Park, Fort Stevenson State Park

There is enough room to set up a tent. They do allow a tent if it is used for children under 18. There is a campfire/cooking ring. The pump is icy cold water, great for cooking and washing up cookware. Inside the cabin are small fridgerators. In North Dakota we don’t worry about bears at the campsites. So coolers can be kept outside.

Rent A Pontoon

Going out onto the Lake is so fun! If you don’t have a boat you can rent a pontoon from the Fort Stevenson Park or Lake Sakakawea park. Pontoon boat rentals (seating for 10) are available for $400-450/day. Life jackets are included with rental fee. Please call the park to reserve Fort Stevenson Park (701) 337-5576

Indian Hills Resort is ablout 43 minutes away and also has pontoons available for rent. We have rented pontoons from the Park and the Resort both have a different view of the water and topography when boating along the coast. My favorite is renting from the Resort. There are many beaches you can get off the boat and swim or walk along, Dead Cow bay and Goat Island are two of my favorites. Yes there is a island with goats on it.

Caramel Rolls two different ways

How to make caramel cinnamon rolls, two yummy easy recipes even kids can make

Caramel rolls are a Midwest favorite, at least they are in North Dakota and western Minnesota, get to the Twin Cities and you may have a hard time finding them.  They may have originated as a German from Russia treat.   No matter how they came into existence they are creamier than a sticky bun and you can find them at many restaurants in North Dakota besides the holiday breakfast table. Heck we don’t need a holiday to feast on them.

The Best Knoephla Soup

Community Calendar ND in a very unscientific poll on Facebook, to a little under 10,000 viewers, which is shared and to those who took the time to give their opinion about 1000 mostly in the Bismarck Mandan area, votes cast and counted. Who Knoephla’s soup tastes the best according to the poll?
